EXPLORE MORE Discovery Museum, (The Harrisonburg Children's Museum HCM) is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to develop a hands-on, interactive museum where children (ages 2-12) and their families can explore and learn together. The museum offers a wide range of activities including drama, creative arts, culture, science, technology and more. All activities and exhibits are designed so young minds can "explore more."

2020 Explore More Discovery Museum
with the Wuhan Virus in full pandemic shut down, this year we focused on the National Giving Day to set up a $50,000 "match" challenge. While we could not donate online with a charge card, the match was successful! Thanks to all who came forward with a donation we could match!

2019 Explore More Discovery Museum
On December 3rd, after a very successful "Night At The Museum" we tour the completed third floor. The kitchen is fantastic, and we're happy to provide a $125,000 gift to outfit the new kitchen and facilitate it's branding and furnishings!

2018 Explore More Discovery Museum
WOW ... it's such a thrill to finally see the fabulous new features on the second floor, and see all those happy kids up in the treehouse at last. The Appleseeds Foundation was committed to bringing the third floor into reality. We are happy to provide a $250,000 "MATCH" challenge to fast-track building a half-million dollar budget toward completion of the third floor.

2017 Explore More Discovery Museum
WOW ... it's such a thrill to finally see the fabulous new features on the second floor, and see all those happy kids up in the treehouse at last. The Appleseeds Foundation was committed to bringing the second floor dream, at least as far as the Maker Space and the Treehouse ... so early this year, another $125,000 was kicked in to get it done. There's lots more work to do, and the Construction Zone, and Airport are still lagging in bad need of funds.

2016 Explore More Discovery Museum
The Appleseeds Foundation has pledged a gift of $130,000 to begin construction of the "Discovery Treehouse" on the second floor. This will open the second floor so the kids can clime up into the treehouse.

2014 / 2015 Explore More Discovery Museum
The Appleseeds Foundation challenged the Explore More Discovery Museum with a $250,000 match challenge to raise a half-million for beginning infrastructure of 2nd and 3rd Floors. The Capital Campaign board raised $250,000 and Appleseeds matched it to represent $500,000.00 for 2015! ($125,000 in 2014, and $125,000 in 2015.)

2013 Explore More Discovery Museum
The Appleseeds Foundation was pleased to provide contributions for "Night at the Museum" totaling $2,500.00. Additionally, we challenged the museum's board with a $50,000.00 match challenge to kick off the 2nd Floor Capital Campaign. The Directors raised their $50,000 and Appleseeds matched it to represent $100,000.00 raised to kick off 2014!

2012 Explore More Discovery Museum
The Appleseeds Foundation was pleased to provide contributions for "Tunes In June", "Night at the Museum", and the Marketing Budget of the 2nd floor Capital Campaign, all totaling $25,000.00. Additionally, during 2012, we also provided over 900 hours of in-kind volunteer services.

2011 Explore More Discovery Museum
The Appleseeds Foundation is pleased to provide the Explore More Discovery Museum with an $10,000 gift toward the opening of the 2nd floor Capital Campaign.

2010 Explore More Capital Campaign
The Appleseeds Foundation believes in the "DREAM" of Explore More and is pleased to show our support by providing a $150,000 gift to create the "Discovery Tree" -- the first floor of a two-story tree with a tree house perched on the 2nd floor level. During 2010, we also provided over 1,500 hours of in-kind volunteer services.

2009 Children's Museum Capital Campaign
The Appleseeds Foundation believes in the "DREAM" of expanding into a regional attraction through their expansion into the old Leggit building. Therefore we are pleased to show our support with a $50,000 gift to begin actual architectural renderings and cadd drawings.

The Appleseeds Foundation is pleased to provide the Harrisonburg Children's Museum with an $11,000 gift for marketing to raise public awareness for the upcoming Capital Campaign, building graphics for the new building location at Main and Newman, and a reception for "Friends of the Children's Museum" held in May, 2008

2007/2008 Children's Museum Calendar & Identity Campaign
The Appleseeds Foundation is pleased to provide the Children's Museum with a $7,000 grant for an identity campaign. Raising the public's awareness and understanding of the Children's Museum is an essential component in preparation for their upcoming Capital Campaign to renovate the old Leggett building at Main and Newman in downtown Harrisonburg.

During 2007, Appleseeds Foundation President Fred Showker has provided more than 2,000 hours of voluteer and in-kind serivces toward the 2008 Calendar project as well as the capital campaign.

2006/2007 Children's Museum Calendar
The Appleseeds Foundation is pleased to participate in the Children's Museum fund raising project -- the production of a calendar of local scenes, photographed by the children. Foundation President Fred Showker acted as mentor for the HCM Calendar Production Team in preparing the photographs, graphics, layout and text for color printing. A $500 grant assisted in production of collateral materials, hand-outs, and posters.
